Chairman’s Address 2009 Well my first full year as chairman has come to an end and it has been an enjoyable one despite the miserable weather. It was nice to see hundreds being scored in the league again, and the standard of games I saw was very high. Unfortunately our finals week never happened so the ultimate destination of silverware is yet to be determined. The work of Ieuan Hughes during this period was incredible. He tried everything to get the games played and together with Hugh Williams and the ground staff at Pontarddulais Cricket Club it is actually surprising they didn’t actually manage to get the better of the weather. My congratulations to all the zone winners and cup finalists. I hope we can play these games. We will be relying heavily on the clubs to make this happen. (Not to mention the weather.) 2008 saw the 35th Anniversary of our league and the dinner to celebrate it was a highly enjoyable evening. Many thanks to the Manor Park and to our guest speaker Mr. David Graveney for making it a good night. To mark the end of the 35th year we embarked on an overseas tour to Barbados. What a resounding success it was and the squad were a credit to the league. Despite losing all their matches they earned a lot of respect and made friends for the league everywhere they went. My personal thanks go to the players not only for the tour but for their support and commitment over the seven years they have played in the league. They have been an excellent squad and I shall miss working with them. I have to give special thanks to the tour captain Josh Simmons and his Vice-Captain Llyr Morris. They led the squad from the front on and off the field. Finally thanks to all the Junior Coaches out there. We can’t do it without you! Good luck for 2009 and I only hope the weather gives us a break. Peter Williams Chairman March 2009 |
