CRICKET COACHING MATTERS!
How to teach the wide range of cricket skills to the large numbers of youngsters who turn up to your junior nights every week is an age old conundrum that was waiting to be solved, until now that is. The method already used by over 1000 clubs in the UK and described by many coaches as a “God Send” is the Cricket Coaching Mat www.cricketcoachingmats.com
- Ieuan Hughes has
decided that he will be standing down as Assistant Secretary at the end
of the current season, due to failing health. He became Assistant
Secretary back in 1978 when there was only the Under 16's League and the
Under 13's, 14's & 15's Cups. Over the last 36 seasons he has seen
a big expansion in the league activities and the number of players
playing cricket every week.
The Under 14's
League began in 1982 and expanded to two zones in 1985, three zones in
1992 and four zones in 1994. The Under 12's League began in 1991,
and grew very quickly becoming two zones in 1992, three zones in 1993
and four zones in 1994. The Under 11's Cup began in 1990 and
quickly expanded to four zones and was later renamed the Under 11's
League when clubs began playing each other on a home and away basis.
We are grateful
to Ieuan for all his hard work over the years in ensuring that all the
competitions run smoothly, and on time, to ensure that our finals week
is able to go ahead each August. I am sure that you will all join
with we in wishing him a happy retirement after he has presided over the
2013 finals week at Pontarddulais from the 18th - 25th August.
10/05/2013 - Clubs are reminded that
despite the rule changes made to the Under 11's competition to include
the use of the Incrediball all players must still wear full protective
equipment - this includes helmet, pads & box. It has been brought
to our attention that a game was played this week where players did not
wear this equipment when batting. Clubs are also reminded that
result cards must still be sent in for matches cancelled due to the

13/12/2012 - The Management Committe and Officials of the League extend our congratulations to James Harris on being called up to the England T20 squad for the 2 internationals against India next week. James, who began his cricket career playing for Pontarddulais and recently announced he was moving to Middlesex to play his county cricket, has been called up as a replacement for the injured Chris Broad. He was already out in India with the England Performance Programme. If selected to play in one of the matches James will become the first player from the league to represent England in a Twenty Twenty International. Robert Croft, Simon Jones, Steve Watkin, Greg Thomas and Hannah Lloyd have all played test and one day internationals for England.
- The South Wales Junior Cricket League
extend our deepest sympathies to the families of Ray Derrick, Aberdare
CC and Ken James, Umpire, who have passed away recently.
01/09/2012 - Any club requiring additional medals for their teams should contact Matthew Griffiths at "H" Sports - number above. Photos from the finals week have been supplied to the South Wales Evening Post who will publish them as space permits.
- Bridgend Cricket Club added the Under 16's League to the Under 15's Cup which they won on the opening day of the finals week as they comfortably defeated Llandeilo by 8 wickets at Pontarddulais tonight.
Our thanks go out to Hugh Williams, groundsman, and to the committee of Pontarddulais Cricket Club for once again allowing us the use of their excellent facilities and for readily rescheduling the matches which were held up by the weather along the way. Our thanks also go to Ieuan Hughes for his work in ensuring that clubs played their matches to tight deadlines to ensure that we had a finals week.
21/08/2012 - The South Wales Junior Cricket League is pleased to announce that John Davies, from Felinfoel is the latest member of the Management Committee to be made a Honorary Life-Member of the League. He first joined the committee at the Annual General Meeting back in 1983. In 1994 he was the Secretary of the 21st Anniversary committee which saw a celebration dinner in Swansea University where the guest speaker was the then Sir Colin Cowdrey. He also served as the registration secretary for a number of years, and at its height there were over 2,000 young cricketers registered to play cricket in the area. Despite taking two short breaks from the committee he has always returned to the fold. From 2004-2006 he served as Vice-Chairman of the league, and in 2006 he took over the mantle of Secretary from the retiring Clive Thomas who had filled the post since 1975.
He joins a distinguished band of workers who have given their time to the league over the years - Brinley John (Treasurer 1973 - to date), D. Clive Thomas (Secretary 1975-2005), Ieuan Hughes (Assistant Secretary 1978 to date), Roy Williams (Chairman 1990-2003), Brian Crockett (Current Chairman & Vice Chairman 1996-2003), Eric Lewis (Auditor 1974-1978, Chairman 1979-1984 and Auditor 1985 to date), and Colin Davies (Vice-Chairman 1981-1989)
21/08/2012 - With the 6th of our 7 scheduled finals played tonight our Assistant Secretary Ieuan Hughes will breathe a huge sigh of relief if the Under 16's final is completed tomorrow evening. The wet weather we have had this summer has caused great problems for Ieuan and our club junior organisers in trying to get matches played in time for our finals week.
Neath Under 14's completed the League & Cup double as they defeated Maesteg in the Final of The Under 14's League at Pontarddulais tonight. Batting first Neath posted what many thought was a disappointing 62-7 from their 20 overs. Gavin John top scored with 17 as Steffan Roberts 3-8 and Ben Phillips 2-5 kept things tight for Maesteg. In reply Maesteg had no answer to the accurate Neath bowling attack as they were bowled out for 30. Rhodri Maddock 3-7, David Mathews 4-3 and David Sharp 2-4 doing the damage. Umpires Barrie Harvey & Alan Rees decided that the Player of the Final was Rhodri Maddock for his bowling and leadership of his Neath side.

15/08/2012 - Tonight's Under 13's Cup Final between Llanelli and Neath has been cancelled due to the wet weather and has now been rescheduled for Monday 20th August with wickets pitched at 5.30pm.

05/07/2012 - Message from Ieuan Hughes (Assistant Secretary)
Would all Junior organisers and team managers/coaches please make a note of the new cut off dates for completion of the cup rounds.
1st Round Matches - to be completed no later than Sunday 8th July. -
2nd Round Matches - to be completed no later than Sunday 22nd July.
Semi- Finals - to be completed no later than Friday 3rd August.
Please make every effort to play these matches even if you have to swop venue's.
If matches cannot be played by these dates then clubs will need to toss a coin to find a winner.
Please let Ieuan know the result by phone as soon as possible after the match and /or use the text result service.
21/06/2012 - At the Management Committee meeting held last night Ieuan Hughes expressed his concern over the number of outstanding cup matches. While he realises that the persistent rain has caused much of the delays clubs are asked to try and play the games whenever, however and wherever they can. With many first round matches yet to be played and the finals week scheduled for the 12th - 19th August we do not have much time left to get all the games played. The line-up for the finals week can be found here
Some concern was also expressed about the number of points that are being deducted for late result cards. Some clubs now find themselves with a minus total. Result cards must be sent in to Ieuan Hughes even if a game is cancelled due to the weather, and even if you have text the result via the results line.
21/06/2012 - The weekly match reports written by John Edwards can be found on our play-cricket website. We are grateful to John for his input which helps to promote the League and gives the young cricketers who put in fine performances their moment in the headlines. 23/04/2012 - Clubs are being encouraged to use the results hotline this year (Number is on the front cover of the handbook & on result cards). This is in addition to the result card which still has to be returned to Ieuan Hughes, Assistant Secretary, within four days. Matthew Griffiths has agreed to run the play-cricket website and results will be updated from results received on the hotline ensuring that league tables are updated the day after matches are played. The text message should include the following
Competition eg: U12 Zone A/B/C/D/E Teams Home Team score-wickets overs Away Team score-wickets overs & result
23/04/2012 - The league are awaiting official notification from Briton Ferry Town that their Under 12's have withdrawn from the league.
19/04/2012 - Due to the unavailability of their ground on a Thursday evening, due to a clash with the Neath Guardian League, it has been agreed that Ynystawe CC can move from Zone C into Zone D of the Under 14's League thus replacing the bye created by the earlier withdrawal of Dyffryn. Unfortunately it means that Zone C will now only have six teams and clubs will have four free weeks. Teams that are not playing may arrange friendlies against each other. The new updated fixtures can be found here.
12/04/2012 - League handbooks, summer draw tickets & result cards were distributed to management committee members at our meeting tonight. You should receive them within a few days. If not please get in touch with the secretary John Davies or Assistant Secretary Ieuan Hughes.

25/01/2011 - Hard drive and a software problem have meant I have been unable to update the website as I would have hoped. A new desktop and we are now off in time for the new season which starts with the Under 11's League on Sunday 29th April 2012. If your club envisages any problems due to overlapping of rugby or football matches get in touch with your opponents early and get the matches re-arranged. All applications for re-arranged matches must be made to Ieuan Hughes, accompanied by a letter of agreement from the opposing club prior to the 1st May. Matthew Griffiths will be in charge of the play-cricket website this year and clubs are being asked to text the match result through to him within 12 hours of the completion of the game. The results hotline number will be published on this website, in the handbook and will be on the 2012 result cards.
25/01/2012 - The league & cup fixtures for 2012 have been released to the club organisers. They can be downloaded from here in microsoft word 2003 format:
07/10/2011 - Congratulations to Scott Phillips (Mumbles & Carmarthenshire), Sean Griffiths (Port Talbot & West Glam) and Aneurin Donald (Gorseinon & West Glam) who have been selected for the Glamorgan Academy. 07/10/2011 - Daniel Jones (Carmarthen Wanderers & Carmarthenshire), Callum Eakins (Gowerton & West Glam), Kierran Bull (Carmarthen Wanderers & Carmarthenshire) are among the 12 boys selected for the Emerging Players Programme (EPP). 01/09/2011 - Congratulations to all the winners from the finals week which went very smoothly, with rain only delaying the Under 11's final which was played on the Thursday evening instead of the Monday evening. There were some excellent games of cricket, played in great spirit, and all the teams were congratulated by the match umpires for the way they played the games.
League Semi-Finals and Finals 2011
The results of the semi-finals and finals can be downloaded here in word format or here in pdf format. Copies of the match programmes from the finals week can be downloaded - Programme 1 - Programme 2 - Programme 3 - Programme 4. Photos from the 2011 & previous finals week will be added to the Junior League Flickr pages as soon as possible.
05/08/2011 - The line-up for the league semi-final play-offs are nearing completion. These matches start with the Under 11's League on Sunday 7th August, and the Under 12's League on Monday 8th August. Tuesday 9th August sees the Under 16's League semi-finals taking place and on Wednesday 10th August the Under 14's League take place.
The finals week starts with the Under 14's Cup and Under 15's Cup Finals at the Pontarddulais Cricket Ground on Sunday 14th August. These are followed by the Under 11's League Final on Monday 15th August, the Under 12's League Final on Tuesday 16th August and the Under 13's Cup Final on Wednesday 17th August. If the weather has been kind to us the Thursday & Friday evenings will be free, but any finals cancelled due to the weather will be rescheduled for these nights. Hopefully the week comes to an end on Sunday 21st August with the Under 14 and Under 16 League Finals taking place.
05/08/2011 - Some people have been asking questions about the highest number of runs scored in a league match. Jason Davies 206 & Delwyn Jenkins 28no put on 240 for 1st wicket for Ammanford in their game against Llandeilo in an Under 16's League Match in July 1990.
Over the years the league have tried various competitions which haven't really taken off. One of these was an Under 15's extended overs competition and in a match against Margam James Bennett and Lee Jenkins of Felinfoel put on 317 for the first wicket in 39 overs. Both players scored centuries.
12/07/2011 - Despite fines and reminders in the minutes one club is still having points deducted for a missing result card which took place back during the first week of May!! Why should the boys and girls suffer through the incompetence of club organisers?
12/07/2011 - Glamorgan are coming to Swansea at the end of this month, thanks to the continued efforts of the St. Helens Balconiers. From Wednesday 27th July to Saturday 30th July they play a four day County Championship match against Northamptonshire. On Sunday 31st July they play a One Day match in the Clydesdale Pro 40 against the Nottinghamshire Outlaws with play starting at 1.30pm. Sixteen and under's go free, so why not arrange a trip from your club. On the Sunday the ECB Cricket Factory will run from 12 mid-day until 5pm with children having the opportunity for coaching in batting, bowling, fielding and throwing.
23/06/2011 - League tables confirmed by the assistant secretary Ieuan Hughes can be found here. They may differ slightly to those on our play-cricket website as these tables only include result cards received by him up until 9am today.
08/06/2011 - Links to the Match Results and League Tables can be found here on our play-cricket website. Results will not appear in the tables until I receive them from Ieuan Hughes and confirm them on the site. Last weeks' results will be added as soon as possible - my wife is currently in hospital, so my time is limited.
26/05/2011 - Junior Organisers are asked to enter Christian names as well as surnames on result cards. This will help John Edwards and Ieuan Hughes when they are preparing match reports for the South Wales Evening Post. John has been telephoning clubs to try and find out the full names of players putting in good performances, but if you can assist with this small task it will make his life a lot easier. We are grateful to John for his time and effort in promoting the league through the local press.
20/05/2011 - Thanks to the generosity of our President Russell Davies our Under 15's made the long trip to the Lords Cricket Ground yesterday. They spent three hours in the Indoor Cricket School, followed by a tour of the hallowed ground and then spent a couple of hours watching the first day's play in the Middlesex v Glamorgan County Championship game. It was a good day for Glamorgan, and for James Harris who had made the trip to Lords with the league as a 14 year old.
Other photos from the Lords Trip can be found here
20/05/2011 - Swansea are the latest team to withdraw from a competition with their Under 16's pulling out of Zone B
10/05/2011 - League tables and results can now be found on our play-cricket site. If clubs enter their results after each game, the league tables will be updated automatically. If not then they will not be updated until I get the results from the Assistant Secretary Ieuan Hughes, which could be up to a week later.
10/05/2011 - Drefach have withdrawn from Zone A of the Under 11's League, and Ystalyfera from Zone D of the Under 14's League.

07/05/2011 - Kidwelly have withdrawn from Zone A of the Under 12's League, and BSC Port Talbot from Zone D.
02/05/2011 - Cricket coaching mats teach large numbers of youngsters to bat properly in a short amount of time .They have an advert on page 53 of this seasons handbook and are offering a £15 discount for orders from SWJCL clubs.
The coaching mat was featured
on the CH4 Wales programme Tin Gem last summer and was voted as the best
cricket coaching aid by the youngsters at Llanwrda CC.

02/05/2011 - There are telephone number errors in the club contacts in the 2011 handbook - Morriston CC - John Sayce 01792-537226 (H) Rob Malt 01792-702957 (H) 01792-702957 (M) and Skewen CC - Wynford Millward 01792-427175.
02/05/2011 - All fixtures have now been posted to clubs play-cricket websites, and clubs are asked to enter their results there after each game. This will assist us in getting the league tables updated a lot quicker. League tables will only appear on our play-cricket website this year with a link from this website.
02/05/2011 - There have been a few withdrawals from the various leagues - Pwll have withdrawn from Zone A of the Under 11's League, Maesteg Celtic from Zone D of the Under 11's League, Llangennech from Zone A of the Under 12's League and Briton Ferry Steel from Zone D of the Under 14's League.
06/04/2011 - A reminder that if you want to change the dates of any of your matches you must apply in writing to Ieaun Hughes, Assistant Secretary, by the 1st May 2011. Your opponents must also agree in writing by the same date. Applications will be refused if letters are only received from one club.
06/04/2011 - Do you fancy yourself as the manager / coach of a cricket team? There are two online cricket management games which are free to play.
Just click on the logo above to visit the websites and register to play - you will have to wait a couple of weeks, keep watching your e-mails, and you will be up and running. Battrick has First Class (3 day matches) BT20 (Twenty20 matches) One Day Competition and a one day KO Cup Competition, while From the Pavilion has a one day KO Cup Competition, a one day Competition, a Twenty20 Competition and a youth league. In each game you have to train / coach your players to improve them, and you can buy players on the transfer market but you have to be very careful as you can run out of money and that is the end of your game. There is a membership fee which you can pay which entitles you to member benefits, but this is not essential - you can play for free. Try them and see, WARNING - they can become addictive!!
29/03/2011 - Swansea Cricket Club have informed the league that they will not be playing any league matches at the Fairwood ground in 2011. All their matches will be played at Ashleigh Road unless clubs are notified otherwise. In the event of a match being played at St. Helens clubs will be informed accordingly. If you do not hear from Swansea then your match will be taking place at Ashleigh Road. Address: King George V Playing Fields, Ashley Road, Swansea, West Glamorgan, SA2 8QB. T: 01792205522. Located off Mumbles Road. Map of ground location
28/03/2011 - With the league season just over a month away the season takes on a new format this year. The Under 11's Cup becomes the Under 11's League Competition and will see matches played on a weekly basis, with teams split into four zones with the four zone winners playing off for a place in the final in August. The Under 12's league has 3 zones of 12 teams, playing each other once. The three zone winners and the best runner-up will play-off for the two places in the final.
The Under 14's league has five zones this year, with two of the zone winners having to play-off for a place in the semi-finals. The Under 16's League has the same format as previous years with four zones and the winners meeting in the semi finals.
The finals week will once again take place at the Pontarddulais Cricket Ground from Sunday 14th August to Sunday 21st August 2011. The line-up for the play-offs and the finals can be found here.
The full list of league and cup fixtures can be found here.
01/03/2011 - Due to a lack of response from clubs the averages will not be printed in the handbook or published on the website this year.
01/09/2010 - Llangennech defeated Port Talbot by 8 wickets to win the Under 16's Bill Edwards League, while Carmarthen Wanderers defeated Ynystawe by 22 runs to win the Roy John Shield Under 14's League as the 2010 season came to a close.
26/08/2010 - The rain of the last week has caused havoc to our plans to play the two outstanding finals this week. With the bank holiday weekend ahead, we have now had to make arrangements to play the Under 16's League final between Llangennech and Port Talbot at Pontarddulais Cricket Ground on Tuesday 31st August. The Under 14's League Final between Carmarthen Wanderers and Ynystawe will take place at the same venue on Wednesday 1st September 2010. Wickets pitched in both finals at 5.15pm.
22/08/2010 - The heavy rain of the last three days has left the Pontarddulais Cricket Ground saturated and as a consequence both the Under 14's and Under 16's League Finals scheduled for this afternoon have been postponed. We are liaising with the Pontarddulais Cricket Club in the hope of getting the matches played sometime this coming week.
Congratulations to the winners of the competitions played to date, and commiserations to the losers.
13/08/2010 - The line-up for the finals week is almost complete and the match schedule can be found here. Good luck to all the teams involved, and let's hope the weather is kind to us.

Aneurin Donald, who is a member of the Wales Under 13 squad, also scored an unbeaten hundred for Gorseinon 1st XI against Llanelli in the SWCA KO Cup Competition. Congratulations to them all!!
09/06/2010 - The League Under 15's squad travelled to Lords cricket ground last Friday 4th June. There they spent three hours in the indoor cricket school, followed by a guided tour of the ground and a change to watch some of the Middlesex v Northamptonshire county championship match which was going on at the time. 26/01/2010 - The league and cup fixtures have been done and will be posted on the website and circulated to clubs over the weekend, along with the new list of club contacts for the coming season.
27/10/2009 - It is with deep regret that we have to announce the death of our President Mr. Bill Edwards, OBE. Bill had been unwell for some time, and was a resident in a Nursing home in Sketty, Swansea. He had served the Junior League as our President since the formation of the league back in 1973 and was made life-president a few years ago. He always tried to attend our annual presentation evenings and our annual general meetings where he liked to speak and keep people informed of what was happening within the game. If he didn't like the changes, he wouldn't be afraid to speak his mind.
Bill, who ran a sports shop near St. Helens, Swansea, was known throughout the world and for many years provided the kit for the West Indies Cricket Board. He was also responsible for bringing many of the West Indies cricketers over to play in the South Wales Cricket Association. A former Chairman, and a Life-Member of the South Wales Cricket Association, he also served the Welsh Cricket Association, Wales Minor Counties and Glamorgan County Cricket Club. Up until he was taken ill he was attending regular ECB cricket meetings at Lords. He was awarded the OBE for his services to cricket around the time of his 80th birthday, and many joked that it was the right award for Old Bill Edwards.
A true gentleman, Bill was a unique character and a great servant to cricket locally and nationally. He will be sadly missed by all his family, friends and cricketing colleagues throughout the world. We extend our deepest sympathy to his wife, family and friends at this sad time.
Thank you, and RIP Bill.
05/09/2009 - Finals Week Photos - The photos are available to purchase from John Davies at a cost of £3.50 for A4 size, £2.00 for A5 size and £1.50 for 7x5 and payment should be sent with the order. You can print off an order form here. Should you wish to see a copy, all clubs have been provided with a sample. (All photos are copyright of the photographer). Some of the match scorecards have still not been received and until they are all available they will not be posted on the site.
01/09/2009 - Final league tables in word and Acrobat reader have now been uploaded to include all results received up to and including Saturday 29th August. Disappointingly there are still some outstanding result cards, even though clubs have been fined and had points deducted for not sending them in.
01/09/2009 - The wet weather of the last week has finally put paid to the remaining finals in our 2009 finals week. The Under 14's League Final had been rescheduled for Wednesday 26th August, but was again rained off. A quick rescheduling by Ieuan Hughes, Assistant Secretary, with the agreement of the Pontarddulais Cricket Club, saw both finals to be played on Friday 28th August. Again the wet weather intervened and both were called off early morning. All four clubs agreed to try and play the matches at Pontarddulais on Bank Holiday Monday, 31st August. Much to our dismay, and the disappointments of the players involved, the wet weather again led to the matches being cancelled early on the Monday morning. So for the second year in succession our finals week has become a washout. The week started so well with five of our 7 matches played to a conclusion, but as the wet weather continues to affect grounds we do not see the outstanding matches being played until the start of next season.
From Sunday 23rd August to Friday 28th August the Pontarddulais Cricket Club had a match planned on the ground every day, but only 3 overs were bowled in the whole week and that was on the Sunday morning as Wales Minor Counties began a three day match on the ground.
22/08/2009 - Photos from the Finals played to date have now been added to the site and can be viewed from here.
21/08/2009 - The weather finally intervened in this week's finals week as the Under 14's League final was abandoned after 6 overs last night and the Under 16's final was cancelled tonight. Other finals earlier in the week were all played to a successful conclusion with some thrilling cricket played, and results can be seen below. The Under 14's league final has now been rescheduled for next Wednesday evening 26th August and the Under 16's league final rescheduled for Friday evening 28th August with wickets pitched at 5pm.
The League wishes to thank the Pontarddulais Cricket Club for once again allowing us the use of their excellent facilities for our 2009 finals week. Special thanks to Hugh Williams, Alan Rees and their team of helpers who have ensured that whenever possible the matches have been able to go ahead as planned. We would also like to thank all the Umpires who have agreed to stand in the various finals throughout the week and adjudicate on the Man of the Match decisions.
As the rain moves off across the mountains in the distance Umpires John James and Dean Mason walk out to inspect the the wicket after a very heavy shower had forced the players from the field in the Under 14's League Final. Despite the sunshine the damage had been done and the match was abandoned due to the wet conditions.
12/08/2009 - The league finals week will take place at the Pontarddulais Cricket Club from Sunday 16th August through to Friday 21st August 2009. The match schedule will be as follows:
League Play-offs 2009
05/07/2009 - Everyone connected with the league was saddened to hear of the tragic death of respected League Umpire Alcwyn Jenkins yesterday. Umpiring the division one clash at St. Helens between Swansea and Llangennech he was struck on the side of the head by a ball thrown in by a fielder, and collapsed to the ground. Attempts to resuscitate him at the ground and in the air ambulance failed and he died at Morriston Hospital.
Alcwyn loved his cricket and would be seen umpiring most nights of the week during the summer and in the Swansea Indoor League in the winter. He also served on the Management Committies of the Junior League and the SWCA over the years. A true gentleman, he will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Our deepest sympathy goes out to son, daughter and their families at this sad time.
01/07/2009 - League Tables are now online and include results received by the Assistant Secretary up to and including Saturday 27th June. There are still some outstanding result cards!! Clubs are reminded that they cannot reverse fixtures unless approved by the assistant secretary. It has come to our attention that some clubs are not complying with the rules and switching matches - these games will be declared null & void.
19/06/2009 - Nigel Garland of Clydach has a new mobile number 07964-041292 and Terry Boyle is no longer a junior organiser with Bridgend Town, please contact Nigel Clayton, details as in handbook. Peter Doyle, BSC Port Talbot can also be contacted on 07813-465948 Clubs in membership details have been updated and can be downloaded in word or adobe reader formats.
16/06/2009 - League Tables are now online and include results received by the Assistant Secretary up to and including Saturday 27th June. Hopefully they will be kept up to date from now until the end of the season. Some clubs are still being deducted points for outstanding result cards - points that could cost clubs the championship at the end of the season!! A reminder that result cards must still be submitted even if the match is cancelled!!
11/06/2009 - League tables will hopefully be posted on the website next week - we have not seen any point in producing tables before now due to the high number of matches cancelled due to the wet weather. Some teams have only played one out of a possible 5 matches in some of the league competitions, so bear with us. If you want to make up your own tables results up until last Sunday have been posted on the site.
11/06/2009 - For those of you wondering when the Lords Trip will take place this year, unfortunately it will not. Due to the large volume of international cricket being played on the ground this year it has not been possible to find a suitable date for the trip. We normally arrange the trip to coincide with a Middlesex CCC match at Lords, but with Test and One Day matches against the West Indies and Australia as well as the Twenty20 competition the county are having to play most of their matches away from Lords. Hopefully those that were due to go this year will not lose out as we may increase the age to Under 15's from now on.
The Management Committee will review the Lords Trip and the future of representative matches at a future meeting. Due to problems with finding fixtures for the various age groups, and clashes with the county regional sides it was decided not to carry out net trials in April this year. We will review this again after the current season ends.
01/06/2009 - The league is pleased to announce a new sponsorship deal with W WALTERS ENGINEERS LTD, of KEMYS WAY, SWANSEA ENTERPRISE PARK, MORRISTON SA6 8QF. Tel: 01792-797790 • Fax: 01792-781164. The company has agreed a two year sponsorship deal and we are very grateful for their financial support.
24/05/2009 - I am pleased to report that the information we received regarding the death of our president Bill Edwards was incorrect. Our apologies to everyone who may have been affected by the information posted here over the weekend.
21/05/2009 - League results for the first two weeks of the season have now been added. League Tables will be produced after the latest round of match results are known early next week, and will then be updated weekly.
20/05/2009 - Due to work commitments I have not been able to update the website as I would have liked. I am in the process of getting the results of matches played during the last 2 weeks from the Assistant Secretary and hope to get them online as soon as possible. There have been a few withdrawals from the various competitions and clubs affected by these have already been informed.
In the Under 16's League Briton Ferry Town were a late entry into Zone C, taking over the Bye previously allocated to clubs in that zone. Following the withdrawal of Pontardawe from Zone C of the Under 14's LeagueYnystawe were moved from Zone B into Zone C and will take over Pontardawe's fixtures while Mumbles Blacks came into Zone B and play the fixtures previously allocated to Ynystawe. Porthcawl have this week withdrawn from Zone D of the Under 14's League with the vacancy offered to Port Talbot Town. Ystradgynlais have withdrawn from the Zone C of the Under 11's Cup with the vacancy being offered to one of the clubs on the reserve list.
20/05/2009 - Sunday 10th May saw the 2008 Under 13's Cup Final between Pontarddulais and Llanelli played at the Pontarddulais Cricket Ground. In a closely contested match the home side came out victors by 10 runs. Hopefully, where the weather allows, we will see more of the outstanding finals played over the next few weeks.
23/02/2009 - Although the league Under 17's lost all five matches on their tour of Barbados you can see what the standard of players they came up against when you look at the Barbados Cricket Association's Presidents XI for their current match against the England touring side. Kraig Braithwaite and Jason Holder, who both scored hundreds for the Wanderers Academy against the league, were both included in the Barbados team. Holder claimed two wickets in England's first innings and is being talked about as a future West Indies cricketer.
19/02/2009 - The league Under 17's have lost all three matches they have played on tour so far. They have come up against some very strong academy teams, You can see scorecards of the matches and follow the tour blog from here.
Today three members of the tour party rescued a woman who had got into difficulties in the sea. Players Owain Luckwell, Tom Day and tour follower Rhys Williams, all from Gorseinon ran into the sea and prevented the woman from being washed onto the rocks near the hotel.
Philip "Oggie" Holding, Dafen C.C.
04/02/2009 - It is with deep regret that I have to inform member clubs of the sudden and untimely death of Philip "Oggie" Holding of Dafen Cricket Club. Although he had been unwell during the last two years his death was totally unexpected. We extend our deepest sympathies to his wife Jen, sons Carl, Ben, and Adam and all their family.
A hard hitting opening batsman Phil began his cricketing career with Dafen in this league and he was a member of the Dafen side which won the inaugural "Bill Edwards" Cup in 1973 and 1974. Progressing to senior cricket he represented Dafen, Llanelli, Skewen, Copperworks, South Llanelli, Pwll and Felinfoel. He was a tidy bowler and could also turn his hand to keeping wicket as the above photo shows.
Last season saw him represent the Wales 50+ side in their County Championship and he played regularly for Dafen 2nd XI, helping to bring on the young players and helping them to the Division 2 championship. He became junior organiser at Dafen around 15 years ago and over this time he saw his teams play in several junior league finals during our finals week at Pontarddulais.
A great character, loved by everyone, he will be greatly missed around the local cricket grounds. RIP Phil Holding, or as everyone knew him "Oggie".
His funeral will take place at 12.15pm on Tuesday 17th February with a service at the Llanelli & District Chapel, Box Cemetry, Llanelli, and internment in the cemetery. This will be followed by refreshments at the Dafen Cricket Club.
02/02/2009 - The Chairman and Secretary will be away from Tuesday 10th to Wednesday 25th February. Any urgent matters should be referred to Ieuan Hughes, Assistant Secretary on 01792-416650.
02/02/2009 - The league and cup fixtures have been circulated to clubs via e-mail and will be posted to those clubs who are not on e-mail within the next couple of days. The fixtures can be downloaded from the website in word format

Clubs not present at the AGM face a fine of £30 in accordance with the league rules.
Leonard (Len) Thomas, Felinfoel C.C.
21/11/2008 - It is with deep regret that we have to inform clubs of the sudden death of Len Thomas of the Felinfoel Cricket Club, at the age of 72. Len served the Felinfoel Club as a Committeeman, Secretary and Assistant Secretary. He was made a life-member of the club earlier this year after his decision to stand down as Junior Organiser during one of the most successful times in the Club's long history.
The club's Under 12's won the League Championship in 2001 and 2002. The same boys were Runners-Up in the Under 13's Cup in 2003, and Runners Up in the Under 15's Cup in 2005. As these junior players progressed into the senior sides the club's 2nd XI won the Division Five Championship in 2007 and the 1st XI won the Division Five Championship in 2008. Len was an all-round sportsman - A Junior Sprint Champion, he played rugby for Felinfoel and Llanelli, cricket for Felinfoel and captained the Allt-y-Grabban Veterans Golf Team. His work coaching the Juniors at Felinfoel gave him great satisfaction, and he was delighted back in August when the Championship and promotion back to division 4 was secured. His work has left a lasting legacy at the club, and the high esteem in which the young boys viewed Len was plain to see as they volunteered to be bearers at his funeral. His funeral took place yesterday, 20th November. We extend our deepest sympathy to his wife Marion, son Mark, daughter Mandy and their families.
Wayne James, Ystalyfera C.C.
06/10/2008 - It is with deep regret that we have to inform clubs of the sudden death of Wayne James of the Ystalyfera Cricket Club. Wayne has served the Ystalyfera Cricket Club as a player and committeeman for 38 years and was their 1st XI captain in 2008. He was also one of the club's junior organisers responsible for the Under 11's. We extend our deepest sympathy to his wife Janice, their family and the Ystalyfera Cricket Club at this sad time. Funeral arrangements can be obtained from the Ystalyfera Secretary Andrew Rees.

Monday will see us try to play the Under 13's Cup Final between Llanelli and Pontarddulais will get underway at 2pm with the Under 15's Cup Final between Swansea and Mumbles starting at 5pm. The Under 11's, 14's and 16's Finals will now have to be rescheduled for the start of the 2009 season.
Matthew Griffiths (Swansea Civil Service) has a new mobile telephone number 07876 053159
26/08/2008 - Our attempts to get our finals played continues to be hampered by the unbelievably wet weather we are experiencing this year. We are still waiting for some of our semi-final play-offs to be played at Under 11, 14 and 16. Ieuan Hughes, our Assistant Secretary, is in daily contact with the Pontarddulais Cricket Club and we all hope that the weather will relent for us to get the finals played as soon as possible. The Under 12's final between Carmarthen Wanderers and Ystalyfera was rescheduled for tonight but has had to be cancelled due to the saturated ground and already the Under 13's final between Llanelli and Pontarddulais is already a doubt for tomorrow evening. The Under 15's Cup final between Swansea and Mumbles is scheduled for Thursday evening and the Under 14's Cup final between Gorseinon and Llangennech is scheduled for Friday evening, but this could all change as the weather takes control.
24/08/2008 - The league finals programme has been hit again with the cancellation of today's Under 13's and Under 14's Cup finals. With the weather still holding up some of our league semi-final play-offs the finals programme will now have to be reviewed again.
22/08/2008 - The wet weather of the last week has led to all our scheduled finals being cancelled. Thanks to the excellent support of the Pontarddulais Cricket Club we have been able to re-arrange our finals week for next week. As some of the semi-final play-offs have yet to be played we have had to re-schedule our matches. Sunday 24th August will see the Under 13's and Under 14's Cup Finals taking place. The Under 11's Cup Final is scheduled for Tuesday 26th, the Under 12's League Final on Wednesday 27th and the Under 15's Cup Final on Thursday 28th August. Weather permitting the week will come to a conclusion on Sunday 31st August with the Under 14's League and Under 16's League finals being played.
The above schedule is of course dependent on the weather and the outstanding semi-finals being played. We are indebted to Hugh Williams, groundsman, Alan Rees, chairman, Matthew Davies, secretary, and the management committee of the Pontarddulais Cricket Club for allowing us the extra time in which to make use of their excellent facilities.
16/08/2008 - The wet weather of the last couple of weeks has played havoc with our finals week. With the Pontarddulais ground waterlogged we have had to cancel the Under 14's and Under 15's Cup Finals scheduled for tomorrow and with the two semi-finals of the Under 11's Cup and one semi-final of the Under 12's League still to be played and more rain forecast we have had to cancel the finals scheduled for Monday and Tuesday. Hopefully the Under 13's Cup will be able to go ahead as planned on Wednesday evening. We hope to reschedule the finals cancelled on Sunday to later in the week.
Under 13's Cup Final will be between Llanelli v Pontarddulais
Under 14's Cup Final will be between Llangennech and Gorseinon
Under 15's Cup Final will be between Swansea and Mumbles

25/07/2008 - Representative Matches Update - Players selected for the various age group matches will receive a letter inviting them to play in the match for which they have been selected. Unfortunately we have experienced problems in arranging matches again this year. The Under 10's have played one match against Mid Glam, the Under 14's have 2 matches in August and letters have already gone out to the selected players. The Under 16's have upcoming matches as well. We are still hoping to arrange matches for the Under 11, 12 and 13's but at the moment things look bleak. Some of the scheduled matches have had to be abandoned due to the weather. We hope to play Mid Glam again at Under 10's before the end of the season. If your child has not played for the league this year we can only apologise, and we will be reviewing our policy for future years. Peter Williams, Chairman
25/07/2008 - A reminder to everyone that this website is run voluntarily and is updated as and when time permits.
03/07/2008 - Help Needed - The Assistant Secretary Ieuan Hughes has today received a result card in the post, which apart from having a stamp on it, is as the card left the printers back in March!! There is no age group, competition or match result thereon. In order to avoid a fine the club concerned should contact Ieuan as soon as possible.

19/06/2008 - The league Under 10's defeated their Mid Glam counterparts in a close fought encounter at Gorseinon on Sunday. The match report can be found here and the match scorecard here. If you know of any other players from league clubs who are in the national sides please e-mail the secretary.
16/06/2008 - I'm pleased to say that the approved league tables have now been uploaded onto the site. Please accept my apologies for the delay but my wife was readmitted to hospital last week. Hopefully they will now be kept up to date on a regular basis. Results for week ending 14th June are also now online, and Cup results have also been updated. League tables in word format can be found here or in .pdf format here.
10/06/2008 - Latest results have now been uploaded and league tables will follow later.
10/06/2008 - Can I draw clubs attention to the advert on page 67 in the league handbook for the Cricket Coaching Mat www.cricketcoachingmats.com
Clubs say it is the best thing they have ever bought for their juniors and as a special offer there is a £10 discount on any order from South Wales Junior League Clubs.
10/06/2008 - Match Result Cards - Clubs are not completing result cards properly. Ieuan Hughes, Assistant Secretary, has had to make several telephone calls to clubs to find out match scores. This will now stop and any cards received incomplete will be marked down as not received and this will lead to a fine and could lead to a deduction of points. You have been warned.
20/05/2008 - Results for the first 2 weeks of the season have now been added to the site. League tables will be updated as soon as possible - my wife is currently in hospital in Carmarthen so between working and visiting her I have little time to spend on updating the website.
10/5/2008 - Clubs are reminded that it is the duty of the home club to contact their opponents to organise dates of all cup fixtures.
10/05/2008 - There have been a few withdrawals from league competitions - Briton Ferry Town from the Under 11's league, Hendy from the Under 14's league, Morriston from the Under 16's league, and Swansea Civil Service from the Under 14's reserve league. Gowerton Blues will replace Hendy in the Under 14's league and still honour their fixtures in the Under 14 reserve division.

10/5/2008 - Following the league indoor net trials letters have been sent out to all the players selected for the league squads for 2008, and the Under 14's trip to Lords. The squads will appear on the website as soon as possible.
22/02/2008 - It was mixed results for our two England players in the two one-day matches played today. James Harris returned excellent figures of 5-29 from 10 overs and scored 8no from 5 balls as England Under 19's lost by 13 runs to Bangladesh Under 19's in the latest round of World Cup matches. Chasing a target of 150 England were bowled out for 136 with 14 balls of their innings remaining. England qualify for the quarter finals despite the defeat and will now face Zone D winners - probably India - on Sunday. See the match scorecard here.
Stephanie Davies scored 25 from 33 balls and took 0-14 from 4 overs as England Ladies beat New Zealand 'A' by 97 runs. See the match scorecard here. England now go on to play New Zealand in five one day matches over the next 10 days, with the first match on Sunday 24th February.
19/02/2008 - James Harris took 2-22 from 7 overs as England Under 19's began their World Cup campaign with a convincing 10 wicket win over Bermuda in Malaysia. This followed his 3-40 in England's opening match 10 wicket win against Ireland. Follow the Under 19's World Cup from here.
14/02/2007 - Congratulations to Stephanie Davies, formerly of Aberdare C.C., who now plays for Bath & Somerset Ladies. On Monday 11th February she became the latest player from the league to play International cricket when she made her England one-day debut against Australia in Sydney and returned the excellent figures of 9 overs 0 maidens 47 runs 4 wickets. She becomes the second player from the league to progress into the England Ladies Senior sides following Hannah Lloyd. Hopefully she will soon progress into the Test team as well, as England take on Australia at the Bowral on Friday, before they move onto the New Zealand leg of the tour where they will play a further five one day internationals. See the scorecard from the 5th ODI here. You can read more on Stephanie on the Somerset C.C.C. website and read an article from the Times here. Stephanie spent last summer at Lords as one of the MCC Young Cricketers and will return there again this summer.
The Somerset website states that Stephanie was awarded her cap ahead of the game by captain Charlotte Edwards. Batting first the hosts scored 211 for nine in their 50 overs, with the Somerset player being the pick of the bowlers, taking four wickets for 47 from her nine overs.
In reply England were all out for 170 with Stephanie, who batted at number 10, being dismissed for two. After the game Steph Davies said: "It was really exciting to make my debut and play my first international for England at the SCG. I started nervously, but then got back into it towards the end to get four wickets."
"It was really hard to begin with and the Australian batters were really going for it. If you didn't get the ball in the right areas they'd take advantage and punish you for it. The Bath youngster added: "We're obviously disappointed not to win the series - we had been playing good enough cricket to win it, but we're confident going through to the Ashes on Friday." This result means that the one day series was tied at two matches each.
Stephanie Davies in action
She was part of the Aberdare side which won the Under 16's League in 2004.
06/02/2008 - Our Treasurer Brinley John has made it a hat-trick of awards for his outstanding services to cricket. Back in the summer he was awarded a certificate in the England & Wales Cricket Board's NATWEST OSCAS. In December he won the Kelly Evans Shield at the Brin Isaac Memorial Awards Dinner in Llanelli and last week he was awarded The Ryan Jones memorial award for outstanding services to sport by Carmarthenshire Local Sports Council in partnership with Carmarthenshire County Council. Unfortunately Brin has been unwell for a few weeks and was unable to attend the latest awards ceremony at the Stradey Park Hotel but the award was delivered to his home later in the week. Congratulations to Brin on all his awards - they are all well deserved after his 35 years outstanding service to the league, and we all wish him a speedy recovery.

15/01/2007 - It is with deep regret that I have to announce the death of our Chairman Henry Williams. Although unwell, and unable to attend meetings during the last year he continued to take an interest in all the league's activities. He attended our AGM in November and was looking forward being able to be more involved in the coming year, so his death has come as a great shock to us all. We extend our deepest sympathy to his wife Gill and their family at this sad time.

12/01/2008 - League and Cup fixtures for the coming season are in the process of being finalised and should be published on the website within the next week. Disappointingly there has been a very poor response to requests for clubs to submit their 2007 averages for the Under 14's and 16's, but those received will be published here on the website soon.
12/01/2008 - We are awaiting confirmation from Lords regarding the annual Under 14's trip to the Indoor Cricket School. Hopefully the trip will take place on Friday 30th May 2008 which coincides with the first day of the Middlesex v Derbyshire County Championship match. Once again we are grateful to Russell Davies for his continued support of this trip.
10/11/2007 - The Annual General Meeting will take place at St. Helens, Swansea on Wednesday 28th November 2007 commencing at 7pm. Clubs are reminded that if they do not attend they face a £30.00 fine. Details will be forwarded to clubs in the next few days.
10/11/2007 - It gives us great pleasure in announcing that Stephanie Davies, formerly of Aberdare C.C. and who now plays her cricket for the Somerset Ladies has been selected for the Senior England Ladies squad which tours Australia and New Zealand this winter. Announcing the squad the senior coach Mark Dobson said
“Steph Davies will be a great asset to the squad. She has been performing consistently in the LV County Championships and Super 4s for the past few seasons as well as for the England Development side. She offers us additional depth in our batting and bowling departments and it'll be a great opportunity for her to show what she can do at the next level." The full squad can be seen here. I'm sure everyone will join me in congratulating Stephanie on her selection, and wish her a successful tour and hope that she can help the Ladies retain the Ashes which they won by beating Australia on home ground in 2005.
10/11/2007 - Congratulations to Gwennan Davies of Clydach who, following her trip to Edgbaston on the 22nd September, has been invited back to attend further coaching during the winter with the ECB Junior Womens Regional Programme.
27/09/2007 - Well done to Rosie Fuge (Gowerton), Chloe O'Connor (Ynystawe), Emily Thomas (Llanelli), and Gwenan Davies (Clydach) on being selected to play for the Wales Girls Under 13's in the ECB Under 13's National Final against Kent at the County Ground, Taunton earlier this month. Samantha Howells (Port Talbot Town) played in the earlier rounds of the competition.
27/09/2007 - Congratulations to Gwenan Davies (Clydach) on being invited to attend the ECB Junior Womens Regional Programme of squad coaching at Edgbaston on Saturday 22nd September. It caps a fine year for the all-rounder who also played for the Senior Wales Ladies against the MCC Ladies.
05/09/2007 - For your information the 2008 league season will commence on Monday 5th May and will run for 14 weeks, ending on Thursday 7th August. 31/08/2007 - We have another Champion among us - Our treasurer Mr. Brinley John was awarded a 1st and 3rd prize for his onions at the Pontarddulais Horticultural Show last Monday. He is now available, at a cost, to give help and advice to groups or individuals on how to grow prized onions. Let us hope he doesn't take it up on a full time basis or our finances will suffer!! Well done Bryn. He has also received a certificate from the ECB for his nomination in the 'Outstanding Services to Cricket' category in the NATWEST Oscas Awards.
30/08/2007 - The league Under 11's lost their match against Carmarthenshire at Pwll C.C. by 2 wickets yesterday to bring the curtain down on the 2007 season. In the two finals played Maesteg Celtic won the 'Roy John Shield' when they defeated Pontarddulais by runs to become the 2007 Under 14's League Winners, and Gowerton Blues defeated Briton Ferry Town by 88 runs to take the 'Bill Edwards Cup' become the 2007 Under 16's League Winners. 23/08/2007 - The final representative match of the season takes place at Pwll cricket ground Llanelli on Wednesday 29th August when the Under 11's take on Carmarthenshire with wickets pitched at 11.30am. Letters have been sent out to the boys selected to represent the league in this match. Carmarthenshire have cancelled the Under 10's match scheduled for the same day.
Unfortunately the weather has played havoc with our representative match programme this year with the vast majority of matches cancelled. We hope that the boys selected for the various age group squads this year, and who have not played for the league, will still attend our net trials next spring.
23/08/2007 - Maesteg Celtic are the latest winners in our finals week as they defeated Gowerton by 9 wickets in the 'Les Sharp' Under 13's Cup competition last night. Alex Griffiths was named man of the match by umpires Garry Hughes and Des Hill, for his 48 not out. The match scorecard can be found here.

Batting first Mumbles amassed 321 for the loss of 5 wickets for a net score of 301, while Llanelli scored 299 for the loss of 9 wickets for a net score of 263. The match scorecard can be found here. It was an excellent game of cricket played in good spirit. Glamorgan legend Don Shepherd presented the runners-up trophy to the Llanelli captain Oliver Furneaux and Daniel Jones presented the "Glyn Jones Memorial Trophy" to the Mumbles captain Ieuan Rosser.
20/08/2007 - Heavy overnight rain has meant that the ground in Pontarddulais is too wet for tonight's scheduled Under 11's Cup Final between Carmarthen Wanderers and Ystalyfera. The final will now take place at the same venue on Thursday 23rd August, commencing at 5.30pm.
20/08/2007 - Congratulations to Mumbles Under 14's and Pontarddulais Under 15's who won the first two finals to be played during our finals week. 14/07/2007 - Unfortunately we have had to cancel the Under 10's and Under 11's matches against Carmarthenshire planned for tomorrow due to the unavailability of many of our players. As we were playing Carmarthenshire we could only select a few of their players and with most of our team made up of players from West Glam our team was decimated when their players pulled out as they were playing for their region. We apologise to everyone but in the circumstances there is nothing we could do.
10/07/2007 - Clubs are reminded that competition rules state that the player numbers for the Under 11 cup are 8 a side and for the Under 12 league is 10 a side. These must be adhered to at all times.

25/06/2007 - Congratulations to Gwenan Davies of Clydach C.C. who represented the Wales Ladies XI in their recent match against the MCC Ladies at the Radyr Cricket Club, Cardiff on Friday 15th June. Gwenan opened the bowling and had figures of 1-19 from 7.1 overs when the match was abandoned. Her return should have been even better as she had a catch dropped by the wicket keeper off the second ball of the match and another dropped in the slips during her second spell.
20/06/2007 - Letters have today been posted to the boys who have been selected to play for the league Under 10's against Mid Glamorgan at Hirwaun C.C. and the Under 13's against West Glamorgan at Skewen C.C. on Sunday 1st July 2007. The teams have now been posted on the website.
20/06/2007 - The East Zone of the Under 9's softball competition gets underway on Sunday with a festival at the Ynysygerwn Cricket Club commencing at 10.30am. There has been a late entry into the Zone with Porthawl C.C. taking up the vacant place, making it 6 clubs competing. Originally it was suggested that clubs invite a team from the West Zone to make up the numbers but this is no longer necessary, so if your club has contacted a guest team then please advise them of the change. Ynystawe and Porthcawl need to advise the secretary of dates when they can host a festival.
14/06/2007 - The league treasurer Brinley John is a patient at Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli and I'm sure everyone will join me in wishing him a speedy recovery.
14/06/2007 - A reminder to clubs in Zone D of the Under 11's Cup Competition that Margam have withdrawn from the competition. This was posted on the site on the 1st May. Also Aberdare were moved into Zone C prior to the commencement of the season.

12/06/2007 - The league Under 12's played Mid-Glam Under 12's at the picturesque Margam Park yesterday and came away with a 4 wicket win. Only one player from the team originally selected took the field as the team was decimated by players withdrawing due to representing West Glamorgan and Carmarthenshire Regions. League officials were left frustrated when news filtered through that players in the league squad had been told by their counties that they were not required to play and these players were then left without matches on one of the warmest days of the summer. More information on the match to follow when available.
12/06/2007 - News has just been received regarding an excellent performance by one of our Under 11's Squad players Daniel Jones of Carmarthen Wanderers. Playing for Carmarthenshire Under 12's against Pembrokeshire Under 12's at Stradey Park, Llanelli yesterday Daniel returned the excellent figures of 5-26 and followed this up with an outstanding 138no with the bat. Daniel is in the Wales Under 11's squad again this year after making his debut for them as an under 10 in 2006. Daniel is the grandson of the late Glyn Jones, Vice-Chairman of the Junior League. Despite Daniel's efforts Carmarthenshire still lost the match.
07/06/2007 - Congratulations to James Harris of Pontarddulais C.C. who is the latest player from within the Junior League to progress into the Glamorgan 1st XI. Since his debut he has been in record breaking form with both bat and ball. In a recent match against Gloucestershire at Bristol he celebrated his birthday in style and returned match figures of 12/118 to become the youngest ever player to take ten wickets or more in a match. He took 7-66 in the first innings and 5-52 in the second innings. In the current match against against Nottinghamshire he has excelled with the bat as he scored 87no to become the youngest ever player to score a Championship half-century for the county. He featured in a record 9th wicket partnership of 185 with another of our former players Robert Croft who scored 115. Harris was denied a possible century when he ran out of partners when Dean Cosker was dismissed. He followed that up with 2 wickets in the Nottinghamshire first innings, and his performance must have impressed England Under 19's Coach Andy Pick who was watching from the stands.
Another former league player Gareth Rees recently scored his maiden first class century when he scored 107 in the Glamorgan v Esses match at Swansea.
07/06/2007 - The links to the league tables are now working - for some reason there was a slight problem which has now been rectified. Sorry for any inconvenience.

29/05/2007 - Warning to Junior Organisers - We've had the first instance of a club being awarded a match due to their opponents failing to comply with the rules!! Clubs were warned before the season started of the amendment to rule 4a which was voted on at the AGM last November. The rule clearly states that "a minimum of 6 players on the fielding side must bowl, with the exception of the wicket keeper. Failure to comply with this rule will result in the award of the match to the opposing team". Don't let the side down - Ensure that your club complies with the rules.

Each player will be allocated a squad number and this will appear on the rear of the shirt, and the league logo will be embroidered on the front. We are currently seeking prices for the shirts and once this is finalised we will be writing to parents.

13/08/2006 - Gowerton won the first two trophies of the finals week as their Under 14's stormed to a 10 wicket win over Carmarthen Wanderers to win the John Davies Cup Competition. A young Wanderers side never recovered from the early loss of openers Gareth Thomas 7 and Andrew Edwards 8, and could only manage 69-7 from their 20 overs. This was always going to be a hard total to defend and Joe Parkhouse 50no and Tom Jones 15no saw Gowerton home with ease. Before the match players of both teams observed a minutes silence in memory of Glyn Jones, Vice-Chairman of the league and a life-member of the Wanderers, who passed away on the 7th July.

The only match to be decided is the Gowerton Blues v Carmarthen Under 14's League Semi-Final, which has been held up due to Gowerton having to play off against Pontarddulais to decide who won the zone. All finals will take place at the Pontarddulais Cricket Club's ground during the coming week and the full line-up can be seen here. Good luck to all the teams and let us hope for dry, sunny weather.
10/08/2006 - The league Under 11's went down to a heavy defeat against their North East Wales counterparts at Bronwydd C.C. yesterday. Batting first NEW scored 229-6 from their 40 overs. Wicket takers were Jack Longden 1-7, Sam Jones 1-34, and Patrick Foley 1-16, while there were 3 run outs. Scoring 142-9 from their 40 overs our boys did the best they could against a very well drilled side, which has made it through to the Welsh Regional Under 11's Final to be held at Sophia Gardens on Friday 18th August. Jack Underwood top scored with 20, while Myles Thomas 17, Jack Longden 15, Aled Stone 13, and Matthew Williams 12 all reached double figures.
With the match against Carmarthenshire cancelled this was the one and only match our side will play this year, whereas the North Wales side have played together regularly throughout the summer, and this could be seen in the way their team performed as a unit. A match report and scorecard will be added later.

The Under 11's Cup Semi-Finals and the Under 12's, 14's and 16's League Semi-Final play-offs take place next week. The full line-up for the Semi-Finals and Finals can be found here.
30/07/2006 - Bad news on the rep matches played against Pembrokeshire today as the Under 12's scored 150 all out, but lost by 8 wickets at Llanddewi Velfrey and the Under 15's, who were bowled out for 138, lost by 7 wickets at Whitland. The Under 16's match was called off late on Saturday evening as Pembrokeshire only had 6 players available. The Pembrokeshire Under 15's have only lost 1 match this season and play Mid Glam in the semi-final of the Welsh Regional Competition on Thursday, and we wish them good luck.

27/07/2006 - A tribute to our late Vice Chairman, Glyn Jones, has now been added to the site. It includes the article which appeared in the Carmarthen Journal on the 19th July. You can view it here. At the management committee meeting held on Thursday 27th July it was unanimously agreed to purchase a new trophy for the Under 12's League Competition and this would be named "The Glyn Jones Memorial Trophy".
26/07/2006 - Yet another player who started his career in this league has progressed into the Glamorgan 1st XI. Gareth Rees, who played for Llanelli, makes his debut in the County Championship match against Gloucestershire at Cheltenham College today. He replaces another former league junior Richard Grant, who played for Neath, and is out due to a broken arm. We all wish Gareth the best of luck - he has earned his call up after several impressive performances for the county 2nd XI this season.
25/07/2006 - With the finals week just a matter of weeks away all trophies won by clubs in 2005 must be returned to the Secretary or Assistant Secretary as soon as possible. League rules state that they should have been returned by the 30th June!!
25/07/2006 - The league semi-finals are starting to take shape with Llangennech and Pontarddulais already having secured their Zones in the Under 12 League. 07/07/2006 - It is with deep regret that we have to inform the league member clubs of the death of our Vice-Chairman Glyn Jones, earlier today. A hard working member of the management committee for 20 years, he has been involved with our indoor net trials and been manager of some of our representative teams over the years. Glyn has lead our Under 14's annual coaching trip to the Lords Indoor School, but had to drop out this year due to illness. His great enthusiasm for the game has been responsible for producing many promising young players at his club Carmarthen Wanderers, and within the league. Glyn was a former Welsh League soccer referee and later became a referees' assessor and was well known in football circles throughout South and Mid Wales.
He was made very proud earlier this year when his grandson Daniel was selected for the Wales Under 11's squad a year above his age group. Glyn will be greatly missed by all who knew him, and our deepest sympathies are with his family at this sad time.
The funeral is on Thursday 13th July 2006 with a service at Midday at Llangynog Church followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn, Narbeth at 1.45pm.
Llangynog is about 7 miles west of Carmarthen town. The best route is to follow the dual carriageway from Carmarthen towards St Clears for approximately 5 miles before turning left and following the signs for Llangynog. The turning left is about 3 miles after passing the United Counties Show Ground which is also on the left.
06/07/2006 - Our congratulations go out to Gowerton Cricket Club's Under 15's team which qualified for the finals of the Portman Under 15's Welsh Cup Competition at Builth Wells last Sunday, 2nd July. Unfortunately they lost both their matches against fellow finalists Newport and Brymbo.
The following extract comes from the CBW website. "The U15 final for the 2006 season was played on July 2nd 2006 at Builth Wells between the zonal finalists Brymbo, Gowerton and Newport. Gowerton 98 for 6, Newport 102 for 3, Newport won by 7 wickets. Gowerton 116 for 7, Brymbo 118 for 6, Brymbo won by 4 wickets. Newport 177 for 3, Brymbo 117 for 6, Newport won by 60 runs. Newport are the Welsh 2006 champions and go onto represent Wales in the UK competition."
Next Sunday, 9th July, Pontarddulais Cricket Club will play in the final of the Under 13's Welsh Cup Competition and we wish them well. At the time of writing their opponents had not been decided as Mochdre and Brymbo had to play off in the Northern Zone and Ponthir and St. Fagans had to play off in the Southern Zone. Good luck to Pontarddulais!!

02/07/2006 - Congratulations to the Under 14's team which defeated their Pembrokeshire counterparts at Pwll Cricket Ground this afternoon. In an exciting encounter the League secured victory off the final ball of the match. Batting first the league scored 181-4 from their 40 overs thanks mainly to the efforts of Rhys Clayton 83 no, Dewi Williams 21, Jamie George 24no and Lee Nicholas 14. Chasing 182 to win, Pembrokeshire entered the final over needing 12 runs to win and only 1 wicket in hand. With 9 runs coming from the first 5 balls they needed 3 runs to win from the final ball bowled by Rhys Batcup, but our bowler kept his cool and a perfect ball saw wicket keeper Llyr Morris whip off the bails to run out the final batsman and secure a 2 run victory. For the league Josh Marshall took 2-23 from 5 overs, Jamie George 2-14 from 5, Rhys Clayton 1-35 from 8 overs, Nick Rothero 2-24 from 5 overs and there were 3 run outs. Rhys Batcup bowled well, without any luck, with figures of 0-20 from 7 overs, Tom Day 0-30 from 5 overs and Josh Simmons 0-23 from 5 overs.

26/06/2006 - Despite a nightmare homeward journey from Lords, the Under 14's squad had a thoroughly enjoyable day last Friday. The day included indoor net coaching, indoor matches, a guided tour of the ground and the opportunity to see Middlesex batting against Lancashire. Hopefully it will be a day they will remember for the rest of their lives. Once again our sponsor met us at the ground and took as many parents as time permitted into the famous pavilion for a look around. All I can say is the view from, and the beer in, the members bar is fantastic!!
We are grateful to our sponsor for his continued support - without this support over the last 13 years the boys that have visited Lords on this annual trip would not have been able to do so. Thanks again.

13/06/2006 - Details of the planned representative matches can be found here - unfortunately the two planned fixtures for the Under 13's have fallen by the wayside as our planned opponents have both withdrawn for various reasons. Attempts to find replacements are ongoing, but are proving to be a battle. Venues for the matches against Pembrokeshire are still awaited.
13/06/2006 - With the league season reaching the half-way stage with the latest round of matches this week the league tables are now beginning to take shape. The wet weather of May meant that not many matches were played and much of the points gained were from abandonment's. The tables have now been updated to include results received up until Sunday 11th June 2006. Some clubs are late getting their result cards in to the Assistant Secretary and this leads to a fine and eventually a points deduction - this punishes the boys not the club so get your result cards in on time - within 4 days - to avoid any disappointment.
06/06/2006 - The league tables have been updated to include results received up to Sunday 4th June 2006. Minutes of the Management Committee Meeting held on Thursday 1st June are now online in the members area. The Under 16's rep game against Pembrokeshire scheduled for Sunday 11th June has had to be cancelled due to both sides having problems finding a team due to exam commitments - we are looking at suitable dates to re-arrange the match.
29/05/2006 - Details of the Squads selected for the Under 10's to Under 14's representative matches have now been added to the site. All players who attended the indoor nets should by now have received letters informing them whether they have been selected or not. If you have not been selected and your letter has not arrived I can only apologise as we have been made aware of a few letters which have not been delivered to their destination. Click here to see the selected squads.
29/05/2006 - Letters are being sent out tomorrow to the Under 14's squad which will travel to Lords for coaching on Friday 23rd June 2006. This trip coincides with the third days play in the Middlesex v Lancashire County Championship match. The cost of the trip for the boy is £5.00 and cheques should be made payable to the SWJCL. The coach departs from Pontabraham Services at 5am and will pick up at Hendy 5.10am, Ynysforgan Depot 5.20am, Skewen Police Station 5.30am, Chapel of Ease, Port Talbot 5.40am and Sarn Park Services 6am. We plan to leave Lords for the return journey at 5pm.

16/05/2006 - Letters have today been sent out to the players who attended the indoor net trials in Coedcae School. Apologies for the delay but this has been caused by the late return of the forms by some of the boys. We wanted to let everyone know at the same time whether they had been selected or not. Some forms have still not been returned, but it has now been decided to inform those who have not returned their forms via the club organiser.
30/04/2006 - On the eve of first matches of the 2006 season take place in the Under 12's league Felinfoel have been forced to withdraw from Zone A due to a lack of players. 23/03/2006 - Briton Ferry Town Cricket Club have withdrawn from Zone C of the Under 12's League and have been replaced by Port Talbot Golds who were on the reserve list. This has had some effect on the fixture list due to Briton Ferry Town's scheduled fixtures clashing with those of Port Talbot Blues who are in Zone D. This has meant that in order to cater for the Golds the original fixtures affecting BFT have had to be reversed. The new fixtures can be found here.
13/03/2006 - Gorseinon Under 16's have withdrawn from Zone B of the Under 16's League due to a shortage of players - the fixtures have been amended accordingly. The minutes of the Management Committee meeting held on Thursday 9th March are now online and can be found in the members area. All club organisers have been advised of the user name and password to enter this area.

Once again there has been a poor response from clubs, so if your name is not included take it out on your club coach as he has not sent your club's averages into the Assistant Secretary Ieuan Hughes.
